1. Albert’s blog oppression of civil liberties displays a major effect of a ruler who abused their power, limited human rights. His blog focuses on places around the world that had or has times of bad civil liberties. In my blog all the rulers I focus on are rulers who gave their people limited rights. For example, Hitler and the Nazis gave Jews little to no civil liberties; similar to America in the 1960’s when whites were prejudice against African Americans. Both of these times two races were clashing concluding in one not having basic human rights. These times are represented in the picture of I have a dream speech on Albert’s blog and the Berlin Jewish cemetery sculpture on my blog. “Liberty Leading the People” in Albert’s blog is a painting that is depicts a moment in French history that was directly caused by Louis XIV, one of the rulers represented in my blog. “Louis XIV” by Hyacinthe Rigaud reveals Louis XIV’s pride, one of the main catalysts for the French revolution, depicted in “Liberty Leading the People” by Eugene Delacroix. Both Albert and my blogs depict moments in history when a leaders abuse their power creating limited civil liberties for their people.

2. Wilson’s Blog, Popular Dictators is very similar to my blog because both of our blogs are about rulers who abused their power. The first painting in his blog, “Napoleon Crossing the Alps” by Jacques-Louis David, is very similar to “Louis XIV” by Hyacinthe Rigaud. Both these painting praised the ruler by using rich colors and making the ruler to sole focus. These paintings are glorifying the ruler even though both Napoleon and Louis XIV were very corrupt rulers of France. Two other paintings in our blogs that are similar are “The Third of May” by Francisco Goya and “The Triumphs of Caesar” by Andrea Mantegna because they both illustrate expanding an empire. However, “The Triumphs of Caesar” celebrates the expansion of the Roman Empire; on the other hand, “The Third of May” depicts the expansion of Napoleon’s empire as an unfair event. Wilson and my blogs illustrate different perspectives of rulers and dictator who abused their power.
